Concept
The hotel duo consisting of IBIS STYLES and Mercure hotels, fits in well with the existing urban landscape, and leads the way in defining a new signature suitable for the current demands of sustainable development, the future development of the area, and, in particular, the northern airport extension.
The space created between the two hotels, partially protected by a petal-shaped glass canopy, forms a setting for urban life. It serves as an extension of the bar, a place of social interaction and a pedestrian passage. With large glazed frontages generated by a high ceiling at ground-floor level, the activities in reception and restaurant areas contribute to the lively atmosphere, adding to the commercial attractiveness of the site, satisfying both the demands of the hotel as well as those of the city and the public.
In spite of the limited extent of its street frontage opposite the Dôme, the hotel complex, nevertheless, creates a strong visual impact, assuming its role as an urban gateway and veritable point of access to the city.
Program
Winner of the competition organised by Aéroports de Paris (ADP) in March 2011, covering a plot of 4,102m², Arte Charpentier proposed two separate hotel buildings: an IBIS STYLES hotel, at the intersection of Rue de Lisbonne and Rue de New York, and a prestigious Hôtel Mercure on Rue de la Haye, also at the corner of Rue de New York.
In addition to separating the whole into two parts, each volume has been subtly articulated to offset the extremely dense nature of a programme of this scope. Arte Charpentier had already designed the Hyatt ‘Dôme’ hotel in Roissy in 1991 using the same principle. This six-storey ‘space cathedral’ sits easily within the dynamic planning project of Roissy Pôle, and conforms to the aims of the urban policy of ADP, to create an urban setting on the very doorstep of the multi-modal transport exchange leading to the hotel district.
