Having been altered by two centuries of work campaigns and interior renovation projects, Hôtel Pinsot, one of the rare buildings of its type built in Paris during the revolution period, has now been transformed.
Considerable means were implemented, under the watchful eye of the DRAC (regional division of cultural affairs), to revive the interior decoration of the original salon and bathroom: sondage campaigns, searches for original decoration under multiple layers of later decor, clearance, meticulous restoration and reconstitution work.
The final result revealed sumptuous, subtle decors: green and ochre imitation marble, motifs of garlands and rinceaux. All the components of the Directory style are present: Pompei-inspired low relief sculptures, Neoclassical scenes, cornice brackets, palmette motifs, griffin friezes…
The facades, listed historic monuments, have also been restored to their original identity. The elegantly curved courtyard gallery reveals a colourful polychrome decor, that has been entirely reconstituted, following research into pigments.
The re-use programme was decisive in maintaining the building’s character.
The Hôtel Pinsot renovation project consisted in consolidating the structural elements and restoring the interior and exterior decoration that best fitted the original purpose of the edifice. It also enabled the restoration of decorative elements using documentation and similar models, according to appropriate techniques. Finally, this renovation also updated the technical circuits in order to highlight the main elements of the building according to today’s standards of comfort while ensuring respect of the architectural style, and health and safety issues.
