Occupying a strategic position fronting onto three sides of the new urban park, the new residential building by Arte Charpentier is one of the flagship operations of the Chandon-Republic estate. The building’s configuration and architectural vocabulary enhance the relationship with the park and surroundings and create a dynamic image for the area.
To maximize the permeability of the site, the building has been articulated to increase its porosity; the entry halls allow views through to the green areas at the heart of the site, and openings at street level connect these with other green spaces beyond. Vertical slots in the façade, suggesting Venetian alleyways, provide access to apartments and punctuate the volumes, but also bring light and views to the middle.
The buildings’ layered façades enhance the dialogue with the park. A filtering screen of wooden brise-soleils modulate the transition from park to building, and balconies extend the living spaces generously towards the exterior. The green colour of the balconies and the interference effects of the wooden mesh set up a visual vibration which is mirrored and amplified by the foliage of the park, so that the project appears as one homogeneous whole.
The facades are composed with plinth and attic storeys, and the window openings and balconies together with the choice of materials, create a visual rhythm. Emphasis to the composition is also given by the brown tones of the brick and the graduation of colour from white to grey of the lower to the upper levels.
More than 80% of the flats have windows on opposite sides or at least two sides. Every flat has a balcony area.
