Situated within the La Chapelle International Development Zone, Arte Charpentier’s design for an office and gym complex contributes to the transformation of this new quarter.
The project is characterised by the presence of green landscaping at all levels of the building, creating a network of biodiversity across the site. The stepping up of green terraces from the sunken garden to the rooftop results in a veritable green lung in a dense urban setting.
Beginning with the entrance court, the pedestrian, cycle and vehicular accesses are accompanied by generous green spaces. Terraced gardens step down gradually towards the urban boulevard to the north of the site terminating in an intimate sunken garden in proximity to the Petit Ceinture railway line. The former wasteland here is transformed into a shady grove with abundant vegetation. The terraces climb in a series of raised gardens to the roof level, presenting a variety of ambiances and characters, and provide an extension to the internal office spaces. Here, in addition to the convivial rooftop lounge, can be found communal vegetable gardens, bee hives and seedbeds; another way of contemplating the daily working routine.
