Temple Hindou BAPS Mandir Paris

Arte Charpentier was commissioned by BAPS (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha), an international spiritual organization, to build a Hindu temple in Bussy-Saint-Georges. This is the first traditional Hindu temple on the European continent, symbolizing a cultural bridge between India and Europe. The project consists of a Haveli (cultural center) and a Mandir (temple).

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir could not have been built without the support of the town of Bussy-Saint-Georges and EpaMarne. This monument embodies the union of two architectural traditions and methods, French and Indian. It will welcome all those who wish to cultivate shared values and will serve as a beacon for harmony and community service.

Jitu Patel, President of BAPS UK and Europe

Through this unique project, we invite visitors on a cultural journey where every space and every stone is a living testament to the art of building, inherited from two great architectural traditions.

Andrew Hobson, Architect, Deputy Managing Director, Arte Charpentier

BAPS Mandir Paris Hindu Temple – Religious architecture Bussy-Saint-Georges, - 2026

Concept

This project is part of the ‘esplanade of religions’, a unique concept developed in Bussy-Saint-Georges. The esplanade aims to link and promote dialogue between centres of worship of all faiths, thereby fostering understanding and mutual respect between different religious communities. The project aims to create a space where spiritual diversity is celebrated and where visitors can explore the riches of different religious traditions.

The building has three distinct levels: the ground floor (RDC) and the first floor (R+1) form the base of the building, dedicated to a cultural centre called the Haveli. This cultural centre will include classrooms, a gym, offices and various multi-purpose areas for community and educational activities. The second floor (R+2) is entirely dedicated to the Hindu Temple, offering a sacred space for prayer and meditation. The temple’s accessible terrace can be used as a meditation garden, providing a quiet, contemplative space for devotees.

The Hindu Temple will be decorated with chiselled domes of varying heights, made of natural stone from India, reflecting the authenticity of traditional Hindu architecture. This project is not only a place of worship, but also aspires to become an important cultural and spiritual venue in Europe, attracting visitors from all backgrounds to events linked to the Hindu community.
